This is the area most divers refer to when someone says Papua New Guinea. With its many hundreds of islands, cays and reefs it is one of the best diving spots in PNG, but also one of the less developed. Many live-aboards visit this area, traveling here by yourself is hard and takes a lot of time, fantastic though!
Milne Bay has many islands, varying in mountainous landscapes with small coastal villages to flat sandy islands. Water temperatures range from 26 degrees in July to 28 degrees in February. The rainy season is from May to September, but rain is very unpredictable here. Winds are strongest from December to April, but generally of not much importance for divers. Temperatures on land hover around 28 degrees all year round.
