Most dive sites are accessible by boat, but live-aboards are common as well. Finding dive shops that rent out gear are still difficult to find. And as elsewhere in Papua New Guinea, try to bring your own gear and arrange everything back home.

Kavieng is the pelagic capital of the country. The oceanic and tidal currents make it a good place for huge schools of barracuda's and trevally. Water temperatures range from 28 degrees in July up to 30 degrees in February. The rainy season is from December to March and wind doesn't have much effect on the diving conditions. Land temperatures are 28 degrees all year round.
